Is the San Diego Republican Party leadership intentionally weakening Republican representation in the 2024 elections—or is it simply failing to follow its mission to “support the election of Republican candidates”?
Is this by accident or by intent? You decide.
Let’s explore the stark contrasts between the San Diego GOP’s website, sandiegorepublicans.org, and the San Diego Democratic Party’s site, sddemocrats.org. The Democratic site is a hub of voter engagement, showcasing calls to action for voter registration, volunteering, event participation, and donations. It’s also front and center in promoting their 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, with a clean design and fast load times.
In contrast, our San Diego GOP’s website falls short of inspiring confidence. Despite its very basic conservative messaging, the site features outdated design elements, slow load times, and an oddly impersonal display of scenic videos rather than candidates. Notably, there’s an absence of any promotional images for the Republican presidential team, Donlan J. Trump and JD Vance. Could these design choices be deterring potential new, young, and minority voters? And if so, is this oversight or intentional?
These discrepancies raise essential questions about leadership and intent. Repeated inquiries to the San Diego GOP about promoting Republican candidates have gone unanswered.
In March, with recent turnover in the Republican National Committee leadership under the newly elected Co-Chair Lara Trump, now may be the time for San Diego Republicans to consider leadership changes at the county level. In March over 60 people were fired at the RNC, what can we learn from Co-Chair Lara Trump?
As of this morning and writing, Friday, November 1st, 2024, there is still no campaign pictures of Donald J Trump, JD Vance, or for that matter any other Republican candidate on our San Diego GOP website located online at www.sandiegogop.org. In a few days, Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, will end our 2024 election cycle.
Is a picture worth a thousand words? We think so. Here our questions San Diego Republicans need to start asking the current San Diego GOP leadership:
- Leadership Effectiveness: Is the current GOP leadership promoting Republican candidates effectively, or is it unintentionally weakening support?
- Website Accessibility: Are slow load times and outdated designs on the GOP website turning potential donors, candidates, and voters away?
- Outreach: How well does the GOP website cater to young and minority voters compared to the Democratic website?
- Need for Change: Should there be a call for leadership changes to improve outreach and ensure GOP priorities are reflected in digital platforms?
- Confusion: Why does the San Diego Democratic Endorsement page have clearly labeled and easy to read endorsements with a PDF downloadable chart to share via email, social media, etc., and our San Diego GOP endorsement page has hard to read light-grey lettering fonts and various elected offices filled with “No Endorsements” and no PDF downloadable?
Will voters call for new elections in December to revitalize the GOP’s approach in San Diego, or will they see their choice restricted?
